Description

City of York is a hybrid floribunda climber in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Mathias Tantau of Germany in 1939. Parentage is Professor Gnau × Dorothy Perkins.

This rose will grow 8-20 feet tall and 4-6 feet wide. Grow in full sun in amended well-drained garden soil. Prune in later winter to remove dead and diseased canes and control size.

The white to white blend flowers are 4-5 inches across with yellow stamens and a strong citrus fragrance. Blooms in early summer with repeat blooming in fall. The leaves are glossy dark green on stems with prickles.

Use this rose on a trellis, wall or arbor. It can be used for screening and privacy, as a specimen or hedge in a cottage, English or cutting garden.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
