Chevy chase is a hybrid Soulieana rambler rose in the Rosaceae family bred by Niels J. Hansen of the United States in 1939. Parentage is Rosa soulieana Crépin × Éblouissant.
This rambler will grow up to 15 feet tall and spread 6-8 feet wide. Plant in full sun in amended well-drained garden soil. Prune after flowering to remove dead or diseased canes and control size.
The 2-3 inch flowers are fully double, dark red and grow in clusters with a moderately strong fragrance. It blooms once in spiring or summer. The stems are thick and prickly and the leaves are pale green with a crinkled appearance.
Grow this rose on a vertical surface as a trellis, wall, fence or arbor. It will work in a cottage, English or cutting garden.
