Raspberry Splash lungwort is a semi-evergreen perennial in the Borage family (Boraginaceae) and is considered one of the best lungworts for the garden. This cultivar is a hybrid between P. longifolia ‘Bertram Anderson’ and P. ‘Leopard’. U.S. Plant Patent #PP12,138.
This easy-to-grow plant forms clumps up to a foot tall and spreads 1 to 2 feet wide. It does best in partial shade to full shade and prefers humus-rich well-drained but consistently moist soils. Dry soils and summer heat may cause the plant to go dormant. Prune spent flowers after blooming is complete. Deer and rabbit resistant.
The pinkish-purple flowers appear in spring in clusters held just above the foliage. Leaves are heavily variegated with silver splotches, adding additional interest to the shady garden. It is evergreen in warmer winter climates.
Use raspberry splash lungwort to edge shady walkways or in groups of shady and woodland gardens.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: No significant problems. Watch for snails and slugs.
