Description

Weeping Higan Cherry is a slow-growing small weeping deciduous flowering cherry.  It can be sold in three different forms:

  1. Natural form 8'-15' foot tall weeping tree
  2. Small tree top grafted at 6' tall
  3. Groundcover that sprawls out

Its elegant weeping branches are simply covered in snow white flowers in the early spring giving it the trade name of Snow Fountains® or White Fountains®.   The true cultivar name is 'Snozofam'.   The blanket of fallen petals are even attractive on the ground.  After the flowers, bright green leaves emerge in the summer, followed by attractive golden and orange fall colors.  Its architectural form is attractive even in the winter when it loses its leaves making this tree a great choice to plant for year-round interest.

Plant it in full sun in a fertile well-drained loamy soil.  It will have the most impressive flower display if planted in full sun though it can tolerate some light shade.  It can be lightly pruned to maintain shape after flowering.  Plant as a specimen, in small space, a courtyard, border, cottage or Asian themed gardens.  The ground cover form looks elegant draping over a garden wall or covering a sloped area f the landscape.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Relatively problem free.  Caterpillars and leaf miners are occasional insect pests.  Blossom wilt and bacterial canker are occasional disease problems.
