- Description
-
'Freeman' is a cultivar selected from the hybrid offspring of M. virginiana × M. grandiflora. It has large flowers with a pleasant sweetbay fragrance, sweet and lemony. This magnolia grows tall, up to 60 to 80 feet but takes years to reach that height. It has large blooms in the spring and may have repeat flowering in the summer. The tree shape is columnar but still grows quite wide from 30 to 50 feet at full maturity.
The tree provides cover for many kinds of wildlife among the branches and under the spreading cover of the tree.
