Description

The Bellini crape myrtle is a cultivar developed by Dr. Tom Ramsey of NCSU. It is a compact plant growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide with a rounded form.

Plant this crape myrtle in full sun in well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and powdery mildew-resistant. Deer tend to avoid the plant.

The bright cherry-red crinkled flowers cover th the plant in midsummer to fall. The glossy green leaves are attractive and develop warm tones in autumn.

Use this plant as a specimen, a foundation plant, in small groups or a large patio container. The flowers will attract bees for a pollinator garden.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Problems:   Watch for crepemyrtle aphids, bark scale and flea beetle and  Japanese beetles.
