- Description
-
'Veriegata' is a cultivar of J. conferta. 'Veriegata' is a vigorous, low growing, needled dwarf evergreen that, at maturity, will reach about 1 foot in height with a spread of up to 6 feet. It is slow growing, but will make an attractive ground cover. The foliage is a mix of green and yellow to creamy white variegated needles. The female will produce cones that ripen in the fall and will last through the winter. Along with the cones, the plant will turn a purple/dark green in the winter, adding winter interest to your garden or as an accent for rock gardens or borders or draped over walls
'Veriegata' does best in full sun and tolerates a range of soil types provided they are well-drained. It is adaptable to dry and moist growing conditions, but not standing water. It is drought-tolerant and not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and thrives in inner city environments. The plant is low maintenance and will tolerate pruning.
Diseases, Insect Pests, and Other Plant Problems: No significant problems. See the "Pests of Conifers" fact sheet to the left.
The Clemson Cooperative Extension Home and Garden Information Center has a factsheet on common juniper diseases and insect pests.
