St. Patrick Rose is a hybrid tea rose in the Rosaceae family bred by Frank A. Strickland of the United States in 1986. It was introduced to South Africa as 'Irish Luck' and to the United States in 1996 as 'St. Patrick' by Weeks Wholesale Rose Grower, Inc. Its common name comes from the yellow petals that take on a slight greenish hue as they age. Parentage is Brandy ™ × Gold Medal
This bushy dense shrub will grow 3-5 feet tall with a similar spread and does best in full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil. It is best pruned in late winter or early spring to remove old crossed, dead or diseased canes. Blooms appear on new wood. Overhead watering should be avoided. In areas with colder temperatures, protection should be provided to new growth from frost. Good heat tolerance.
The 3-4 inch wide yellow roses with green shading are fully double with 30-35 petals in a reflexed bloom form. They are mildly fragrant and bloom mostly singly or in small clusters. They repeat bloom throughout the season. Medium green matte leathery foliage appears on stems with many prickles.
Won the All-American Rose Selection in 1996.
An ideal plant to place in the front of the border as it fills out to the ground or plant in groups as a hedge or in a container in a cottage, cutting or pollinator garden.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
