Description

Sevillana is a hybrid floribunda shrub rose bred by Marie-Louise (Louisette) Meilland of France in 1969. Parentage is Seed parent: ('MEIbrim' x 'Jolie Madame' x 'Zambra'® x 'Zambra'®) and Pollen parent: ('Tropicana' x 'Tropicana') x ('Poppy Flash' x 'Rusticana'®)

This bushy dense spreading shrub will grow 4-6 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide and prefers full sun but will tolerate some shade. Plant in fertile well-drained moist soil and prune late winter to early spring. Remove old, damaged, diseased or cross canes and prune to 1/3 its size. Fertilize in spring and summer. Allow good air flow to help prevent diseases.

The 3-inch crimson-red to orange-red flowers are semi-double with 9-16 petals and a slight fragrance. Rose hips are produced if some of the fall flowers re not pruned off. The foliage is a semi-glossy bronze-green on stems with prickles.

Use this rose in borders, mass planted, as a low hedge in a cottage cutting or pollinator garden.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Watch for black spot, powdery mildew and rust in humid conditions. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
