Rosa 'Royal Sunset'

Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

Royal Sunset is a climbing hybrid tea in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Dr. Dennison H. Morey in 1960. {Parentage is Sungold (Cl. Hybrid Tea, Thomas before 1932) × Sutter's Gold (Hybrid Tea, Swim, 1946)

The rose will climb 8-15 feet and spread 8-10 feet. It will do best in full sun in fertile moist well-drained soil. It is best pruned in late winter to remove diseased, damaged or crossed canes and to control size.

The large apricot blend double flowers have a moderately fruity fragrance and the shrub repeat blooms throughout the season. The leaves are large and leathery and appear on canes with many prickles.

This rose can be trained to a trellis, arch, fence or other verticle surface. Use in groups to provide screening and privacy, as a specimen, in a cutting garden, English garden or cottage garden.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
