Description

Rotes Meer is a hybrid rugosa shrub rose in the Rosaceae family bred by Karl Baum of Germany in 1983.

This dense cold hardy shrub will reach heights of 4-5 feet and spread 3-4 feet wide. Plant in full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil.

The 2-3 inch wide flowers are a medium red with purple shading, a strong fragrance and 10-24 petals. Rose hips will form if some of the flowers are not deadheaded. The rose blooms in summer and may repeat later in the season. Bright green foliage is on stems with prickles.

Use this shrub in the border, as a hedge or for privacy and screening.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
