Prosperity is a hybrid musk shrub in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Rev. Joseph Hardwick Pemberton in 1919. Parentage is Marie-Jeanne x Perle des Jardins.
This shrub rose will grow 4-10 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide. It prefers full sun but will tolerate some shade better than most roses and will do best in fertile moist well-drained soil. Keep soil moist but not water-logged and fertilize weekly with a liquid fertilizer. Prune the shrub in late winter to remove dead, diseased or crossed canes and to shape. Avoid overhead watering and crowding to help prevent diseases.
The white flowers with pink undertones are 3-4 in wide, fragrant and semi-double with 10-20 petals. It will bloom in flushes from spring through fall with many clusters of flowers. The foliage is gloss dark green on canes with prickles.
Use this shrub as a specimen, in groups for privacy, in the shrub border, in a cottage garden, English garden or cutting garden.
Received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance. Powdery mildew is more likely if it is dry. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
