Description

Neary wild is a hybrid floribunda shrub in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by the Brownell Family in 1941. Parentage is Dr. W. Van Fleet x Leuchtstern

This is a cold hardy shrub that grows 2-4 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide in a dense rounded shrubby form. Plant in full sun for best results but will tolerate some shade in amended well-drained moist garden soil. Prune in late winter to early spring and remove dead, diseased and crossed canes.

The single pink flowers have a white center, prominent yellow stamens and a mild fragrance. They occur in clusters and repeat blooms from spring through fall. Rose hips will follow if some of the flowers are not pruned off. Foliage is matte dark green with red highlights on stems with prickles

Use this shrub as a specimen, as a low hedge, in a container, along walkways, in a cottage garden or in the border. Doesn't do as well in a coastal setting.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Watch for rust, powdery mildew and black spot in humid conditions. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
