Rosa 'Mermaid'

Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

Bred in 1906 by English horticulturalist William Paul and his son, 'Mermaid' was given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.  William Paul was best known as a rosarian and the writer of book The Rose Garden and author of The Rose Annual.

This very vigorous climber has dark green glossy leaves.  In some milder climates it is nearly evergreen.

It is a difficult plant to propagate, however propagation can be accomplished from stem cuttings.

Use caution around its large hooked thorns.

Although it is somewhat shade tolerant, growing in full sun will produce the best flowers while providing some resistance to disease.  It is prone to develop blackspots.

Fragrance: Mild
