Description

Leander is a hybrid tea rose in the Rosaceae family that was bred by David C. Austin in 1982 as part of the English Rose Series. Parentage is Charles Austin × Unnamed Seedling.

This vigorous rose will grow 7-14 feet tall and spread 5-6 feet wide. It can be grown as a shrub or trained to climb a trellis. This rose needs full sun in fertile moist well-drained soils. Prune in late winter to spring and mulch to retain moisture.

Leander has fully double apricot to apricot blend flowers with a fruity fragrance. It will bloom in summer and repeat bloom through fall. The glossy green leaves appear on canes with spines.

Use this rose in the cutting, English or cottage garden. Grow in a shrub border, as a specimen or on a trellis or other vertical support.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Watch for black spot and mildew. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse the plant.
