Hansa was introduced in 1905 and is a hardy, vigorous, upright, suckering shrub with very fragrant large purple-pink double blooms. The blooms occur from spring through frost with large orange-red hips following. Best grown in full sun and rich, well-drained soils although it will tolerate drier and poorer soils. It is salt-tolerant and can be grown along the ocean shores to help prevent erosion. This rose does not like heavy pruning so allow it to grow to full size.
Disease resistant but can get black spot and powdery mildew, especially in humid climates so plant in full sun and allow good air circulation to help decrease this problem. For full information on common pests and diseases, please see the Rosa page.
