Rosa 'Don Juan'

Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

'Don Juan' is a hybrid climbing tea rose in the Rosaceae family bred by Michele Malandrone of Italy and introduced to the United States in 1958. Parentage is a seedling of New Dawn × New Yorker.

This vigorous climber grows 8-14 feet tall and 4- 8 feet wide. Plant in full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil. It blooms on new and old wood so pruning can be done any time. Remove dead and diseased canes at any time and prune to control size.

The large 4-5 inch double flowers have 26-40 petals and are very fragrant. Good repeat blooming through fall. Foliage is glossy dark green on stems with prickles.

Use on vertical surfaces as pillars, trellises, fences and arbors. Use in the cottage and cutting garden.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Watch for black spot, powdery mildew and rust. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
