Description

Black Jade is a miniature hybrid climbing rose in the Rosaceae family bred by Frank A. Benardella of the United States in 1985. Parentage is Sheri Anne × Laguna ®.

This miniature vigorous climber is erect and spreading and grows 1.5 -2 feet tall or taller with a similar spread. Grow this rose in full sun in fertile moist well-drained soil. Prune in late winter.

The deep velvety red flowers have golden stamens, recurved petals and a light fragrance. It blooms from late spring to early frost. The leaves are glossy dark green on stems with prickles. Rose hips will form if the flowers are not pruned off.

It earned the Award of Garden Excellence from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1985.

Use this rose in masse as a ground cover, in the border front, in small spaces or containers. Makes a good cut rose.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: susceptible to Mildew. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
