Compassion rose is a hybrid tea climber in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Jack L. Harkness of Britan and released in 1972. Parentage is White Cockade × Prima Ballerina ®. Known as 'Belle de Londres'. in France.
This bushy well-branched rose will grow 5-15 feet tall and 5-8 feet wide and can be grown as a climber or pruned as a shrub. Plant in full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil. The best time to prune is late winter.
The salmon 4-5-inch double flowers have 26-40 petals and a strong fragrance. Blooms are singly or in small clusters and repeat blooms throughout the season. Foliage is large, dark green and glossy on stems with prickles.
Use this rose on any vertical surface as a pillar, fence or trellis or prune to a shrub as a hedge or in the border. Plant in the cottage, cutting or English garden.
