Description

'Awakening' is a hybrid wichurana climbing rose in the rose family (Rosaceae) that is a sport of New Dawn that was discovered by Jan Böhm, formally of Czechoslovakia, in 1935. It was introduced to Canada in 1992 as 'Awakening'.

It can grow 8-14 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide. Its preference is for full sun in fertile well-drained moist soil but will tolerate partial shade. Prune after flowering is completed. Provide spring frost protection. 

The fully double-quartered fragrant pink flowers are up to 4 inches across with 26-40 petals. It blooms in summer and repeat blooms in fall. The foliage is glossy green and the stems have prickles.

Grow 'Awakening' on a trellis, fence or other vertical objects in the cutting or cottage garden.
