Pilosella paniculata
Common Name(s):
Previously known as:
- Hieracium paniculatum
- Phonetic Spelling
- pil-oh-SEL-uh pan-ick-yoo-LAH-tuh
- Description
-
Panicled Hawkweed is a weedy wildflower, present from summer into fall. It can be found growing in dry to moist forests and woodlands and along trail sides as well as man-made or disturbed habits.
It will rise from a caudex which is a short persistent stem base at or just below the surface of the soil. This caudex overwinters and produces the next season's stem. The stems are usually solitary, producing stem leaves up into the bloom. It has few or no basal leaves.
It typically blooms in August but can flower from July to October.
Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Can be considered to be weedy.
