Prince's Feather is an annual herbaceous plant in the buckwheat family (Polygonaceae), native to Eurasia and widely cultivated as an ornamental for its striking, pendulous spikes of deep rose-pink flowers. It has a bushy habit and course texture growing up to 7 feet tall. It can become invasive in parts of the southeastern United States due to its aggressive self-seeding nature. It requires low maintenance but does require protection from high winds in cultivation.
This species is both male and female and is pollinated by insects. It is attractive to hummingbirds and other pollinators.
Protect from high winds and do not over-fertilize. It is an aggressive plant that will self-sow, may naturalize in some areas. It is considered invasive in parts of the southeast. It can be found growing on roadside and wastelands.
