Cineraria is a hybrid mounding perennial in the aster family with parents originating from the Canary Islands. In NC it is used as an annual or houseplant. The daisy-like flowers cover the plant in winter to spring and come in multiple colors, often having a contrasting eye.
This plant needs fertile well-drained and constantly moist soil in partial shade. It is generally grown as a florist plant and forced to bloom during Christmas to Easter. As a houseplant, it needs bright light and humid conditions. They are difficult to get to rebloom and are often discarded after blooming.
Pests & Diseases: Aphids, thrips, spider mites, white fly, and leaf miner.
