Description

'Dominos' Easter lily cactus is a small cactus cultivar that has a dark green stem that is rounded, globose, and dotted with woolly white areoles. The species, Lobivia ancistrophora, is a native of Bolivia and Argentina, and the plant is a member of the cactus family (Cactaceae). The genus name is an anagram of "Bolivia." The species epithet means "bearing fishhooks."

This plant prefers full to partial sun and should be grown in a well-drained cactus or succulent potting mix. A clay pot is recommended and make sure that there are several drainage holes to prevent water retention. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. This plant is not frost hardy. It is hardy to USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 9 to 11 and prefers temperatures between 60 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

"Dominos' will grow to about 2 to 3 inches tall and 2 to 4 inches wide. The dark green stems are globular with white wooly areoles. It has beautiful large white fragrant blooms. During the summer, 3 to 5 blooms will open that cover the plant. The blooms will last less than 24 hours, but the plant will repeat bloom 2 to 4 times during the summer season.

This plant is easy to grow, low maintenance, and perfect for a beginner gardener.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Monitor for mealybugs, spider mites and scale insects. Overwatering and high humidity can cause root rot.
