Description

Award-winning Colorado Gold® Gazania is a cultivar with bright yellow flowers in the Asteraceae (daisy) family.  It is a cold hard perennial in its native Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa.

It is more winter hardy than other varieties of gazania.  Its silvery-gray foliage undersides also differs from other varieties.

It cannot perform at its best in heavy soils, such as clay.  Not liking wet feet, it is best to locate in a gravel based soil where quick drainage is provided.  Once established, watering should be deep but infrequent.

Although gazania may not live for more than a few years, its reseeding will ensure years of beautiful blooms in your garden.

Deadheading will extend your bloom period and will also limit self reseeding.

Severe cutting back can damage and even kill your plant.  Cut back dead stems in the spring.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  Improper drainage can lead to root and stem rot.  Other possible diseases include powdery mildew, fungal spots, and crown rot.

Mealy bugs and thrips may be an issue.
