Windflower is a compact, vigorous, herbaceous perennial Japanese hybrid with showy, white flowers (blooming 5-8 weeks!!). It has a mounding form and spreads by rhizomes. While they can grow in full sun or partial sun, this flower prefers partial shade.
This plant can be propagated in the winter and spring through, respectively, root cuttings and division.
Insect and Disease Problems: While not having serious problems relating to insects or diseases, this plant may have issues with the following: powdery mildew, leaf/stem smut, leaf spot, downy mildew, caterpillars, nematodes, slugs, flea beetles, Japanese beetles, and black blister beetles.

- Seedheads form from the green center of the flowers (originally the bud). This does not always appear, but if it does, the seedhead may be seen after frost. While this part is a seedhead, seeds do not usually form from it.

- Ruffled flowers bloom in late summer/ early fall (around August through September-- though some have been known to bloom from September through November instead). While its stamens are yellow, the petals are white. At the back of the petals is a little pink. Each flower can be up to 3 inches across. Technically the "petals" are sepals (to which there can be up to nine sepals on one flower). Flowers can be single or semi-double and last 5-8 weeks!
