Description

Alstroemeria is often grown in a greenhouse for cut flowers, but some species and hybrids, such as A. ligtu will overwinter outside in North Carolina. You should mulch the plant well in winter in an attempt to ensure survival. This plant is a herbaceous perennial with erect stems and alternate, strap-like leaves that are narrowed at the base.  It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained moist soils.  It has fleshy fibrous roots that can be divided in the fall.  A popular houseplant or interiorscape plant our outdoors in a flower garden as tender perennial
