Prostrate abelia is a hardy cultivar of Abelia x grandiflora. It has good deer resistance, is drought tolerant, and easy to grow. When planting, it is best to space the plants 3 to 5 feet apart. The flowers bloom on new wood; therefore, pruning, if needed, may be done in late winter and early spring. It can be severely pruned to removed deadwood and will help keep the shrub dense. It prefers full sun, moist, well-drained soil but will tolerate clay, damp or dry soil. Water regularly but do not over water.
