Approximate year the garden/landscape was established:

What to look for: A xeric (dry) garden can be a great low-maintenance garden option, especially in sunny places that are naturally dry. Featuring many drought-resistant plants, a xeric garden's goal is to eliminate the need for supplemental water. Landscaped with plants that are native to dry areas, the garden will thrive in hot, droughty conditions.

Horticulture: Plants are watered until they establish, after which they rely only on rainfall. Because North Carolina is not a desert, the plants in this garden are planted on mounds to prevent waterlogging during prolonged rainy periods.
