A tropical epiphyte, this vine is commonly grown as a houseplant in temperate climates.  It requires bright but indirect light, warm room temperatures and high humidity.  Soil should remain moist but not soggy.  It makes an attractive hanging plant.  Leaves are dark green, leathery, ovate to laceolate with entire margins.

 

This plant has no significant insect or pest problems.

Flower:
This plant flowers freely with terminal flower clusters. Buds appear first and resemble tubes of lipstick, hence the common name. Tubular scarlet red flowers with yellow throats have petals that are shorter on top than bottom.
