- Common Name(s):
Great fall color shrub and one of the only that will turn reliably red even in partial shade conditions. It begins to color in early fall with tints of burgundy that are followed by crimson with orange and gold undertones. Disanthus cercidifolius has small, unusual flowers that resemble little burgundy starfish that appear as the foliage drops for the season. Although they are cute they are rather medicinal in fragrance.
