Cedrus deodara 'Snow Sprite'

The dwarf conifer, Cedrus deodara 'Snow Sprite' is grown for its attractive foliage.  It can grow in both full sun to light shade, but is at its best in when grown in part shade.  That part shade will result in the white foliage being more intense. A mature specimen will reach a height of 3' and a width of 2.5' wide.  Its annual growth rate can range from 3" to 4".  Growth can be controlled somewhat with the watering methods in place.  It will tend to grow quicker if irrigated.  Locating it in an area that does not receive irrigation during dry periods will help to keep the plant at a smaller size.

Once established, it is considered to be drought tolerant.  Protection from winter winds is imperative.  In hot climates, some afternoon shade is appreciated.

Over a period of time, a leader may develop, however, the plant can be pruned to retain its attractive mounding shape.

With the proper growing condition provided, its life expectancy can be over 50 years.
