Maraschino salvia is a hybrid salvia in the Lamiaceae (mint) family. This plant is a cross between Salvia greggii and Salvia microphylla.
Unlike other varieties of salvia, some afternoon shade in hot climates can be a benefit. However, too much shade can cause the plant to not flower. Plant in a location where the plant receives sun on all sides. If sun is only on one side, it will lean towards the sun.
Determined to be among the hardiest red salvia. It can be subjected to frost and will survive, coming back the next spring.
The bright red flowers resemble maraschino cherries floating in a sea of green leaves.
