Night Owl Rosa 'Night Owl' WEKpurosot
- Description
-
In 2005, the award-winning 'Night Owl' rose was bred in the US by Tom Carruth, a leading hybridizer in the US. 'Night Owl' is a floribunda rose with blooms that appear in clusters and are quite fragrant, giving off the scent of a sweet spicy clove.
The large 4" flowers of deep purple to red wine make for a showy appearance climbing an arbor, wall, fence or trellis in your garden. Support is essential for this climber. Lacking tendrils to assist its climbing, the use of stretchy plant tape to tie the stems to a trellis or other structure is required. A cultivar that does not have prickles makes it a pleasure for all to handle. Pruning or cutting back should be accomplished in the early spring when the plant is dormant. Regular maintenance should include the removal of any diseased leaves.
Grows well in full sun, however, optimum conditions include some protection from scorching afternoon sun. Morning sun is best. Avoid overhead watering, water from the base of the plant.
Insects, Diseases and Other Plant Problems: Watch for spider mites, aphids, scale, caterpillars and leafhoppers. Diseases to watch out for include rose black spot, powdery mildew and rose rust.
