Description

Carefree Wonder is a hybrid shrub rose bred by Alain Meilland and Jacques Mouchotte of France and released in 1990. Parentage is seed: Prairie Princess × Nirvana ® and pollen: Eyepaint ®.

This bushy shrub grows 3-5 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide in full sun in amended well-drained moist garden soil. Remove old, dead or diseased canes in late winter and prune to 1/3 its size. Provide late spring frost protection to new growth. Prune spent flowers to encourage reblooming.

The pink blend flowers have a white blend reverse and age to medium pink, They are 4-5 inches across with 26-40 petals and a mild fragrance. They bloom in small clusters prolifically in flushes throughout the season. The semi-glossy medium green foliage is on stems with prickles.

Was awarded the  All-America Rose Selection winner in 1991.

Use this shrub in the border, in groups, as a hedge or in a container. Use in cottage or pollinator gardens.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Watch for powdery mildew, rust and black spot. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
