Rosa 'Barbra Streisand'

Phonetic Spelling
RO-zuh
Description

'Barbra Streisand' is a cultivar shrub in the Rosaceae (rose) family.  It was hybridized by Tom Carruth from Rosa 'Angel Face' and Rosa 'Sterling Silver' and introduced by Weeks Roses in 2001.  It was chosen and named by the accomplished vocalist who was a rose enthusiast and perfectionist.  She wanted a rose that had a strong fragrance, large flowers and beautiful color.  This cultivar fit the bill.

Long, shapely pointed buds open into large, fully double, lavender flowers boast over 35 petals and can reach a diameter of 4-5".   These showy blooms also emit a strong, citrus and rose perfume fragrance, capable of filling a room with its scent.  Along with the glossy, large dark green, it makes quite a statement in your garden.

Repeat blooming will occur from spring to fall.  Deadhead to encourage additional flowers.

A medium maintenance rose, pruning should be done in the springtime to remove any dead or diseased wood and also any canes that cross.

Planting should have the crown of the plant at ground level.  Caution should be used to not bury the crown.  Although it will grow in part shade, full sun provide higher quality plants and earlier flowering.

It has the classical Hybrid Tea form.

Watering should be done on a regular basis until the plant has become established.

Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems:  Although it has good disease resistance, blackspot is an occasional issue.
