Juniperus davurica 'Expansa'

Common Name(s):

Description

An extremely tough, hardy juniper variety with long slender branches. It has excellent heat tolerance, and tolerates fair amounts of shade. Very adaptable plant, but especially well suited for the harsh, high humidity of the coastal southeastern U.S. This variety holds good sage green color extremely well all year long, with virtually NO change at all in colder weather.  This plant works well as an evergreen foreground plant, as an accent plant or as a lower growing groundcover along boarders or rocky banks and under trees.  Introduced in 1862 from Japan by Parsons Nursery in NY.

Wildlife Value:  Mature plants produce juniper berries, which are eaten by birds & other forms of wildlife. This plant is seldom damaged by deer.
