Description

Ampelaster carolinianus or Climbing aster is a herbaceous perennial that can climb to heights greater than 10 feet. It prefers to sprawl over the tops of fence posts or other plants.

Regions:  Coastal plains.

Climbing Method: Both woody and vining

Prefered location: The Climbing aster prefers a sunny wet site of optimum growth.

Wildlife Value:  This plant is moderately deer resistant. It is the host plant for the Pearl Crescent butterfly. Its flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies. Songbirds and small mammals eat the seeds.
