A North American native, this clump-forming plant naturalizes by self seeding. Cut spent flower spikes to prevent seeding if needed. It blooms in the second year, attracting butterflies to it's blue-purple flowers that bloom from bottom to top of narrow upright panicles. Found in prairies, thickets, fields.
