Evodia daniellii

Common Name(s):

Phonetic Spelling

Description

Evodia daniellii, or Korean Evodia, is a small to medium sixed deciduous tree, typically growing to 25 feet, that tends to have weak wood and is generally short-lived. It is easy to transplant with a rapid growth rate, but young trees are not as cold hardy as mature trees so it is best to plant a mature tree. Produces small, creamy white flowers in summer and red to black fruit in late summer to fall. The bloom is generally heavy and showy, especially for summertime. The fruit can also be ornamental.

It prefers full sun and moist, well-drained soil but will grow in a range of soil types. The PH of the soil is not critical. Young trees are less cold hardy than mature specimens, so you should plant as large a specimen as possible.

Evodia's form is as wide as it is tall with open branching, smooth gray bark, and foliage that lasts through the summer casting a light shade. It is most often found with a short main trunk that divides into several main branches.

Diseases, Insects, and Other Plant Problems:

Other than lack of cold-hardiness with young trees; no known problems.
