Woodland Perennial Border

Description

This is a vignette of a spring-time perennial border along an open woodland area. The star is the lavender bearded iris (Iris x germanica) blooming in the background. The woodland beyond includes hickories, maples, and oak trees. Circling the iris in the foreground, left to right, there is a Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’, a Euphorbia x martini ‘Tiny Tim’, Phlox subulata ‘Red Wings’, a voluntary sprig of Euphorbia, Ajuga reptans ‘Chocolate Chip’, and Helleborus. At the center, a slowly decomposing stump of a maple tree felled years earlier naturally enriches the soil.
