Path Garden

Description


This yard in the Piedmont is in deep shade from many mature trees. Rather than heavy clay, the soil is sandy, found sometimes in the Southern regions of the Piedmont. The gardens have been under construction for about 15 years with many attempts to find plants, both perennial and annual, to grow in the deep shade.
 

The owner has woven a series of garden rooms with many varieties of color and texture. Recently, a very large tree was removed, opening some of the areas to greater time in the sun.

There are several paths to lead one through the rooms of the garden with shrubs and flowers enticing the senses to enjoy the journey. The paths are laid with various materials such as wooden walkways, gravel, or hard packed soil. Flowers bloom through the seasons though these photos were taken in early
