Dry Stream Garden

This property sits on lower ground than the homes behind it and historically had problems with water runoff. To remedy this problem a channel was dug, rocks were brought in, and a dry stream bed was created to divert water away from the house. There is an extensive planting of trees, shrubs, and perennials to one side of it which aids in absorbing excess water.  The lush plantings lend a tropical feel to this space.

The stream bed runs between a patio and a mulched walkway with various plantings before curving down toward the lawn away from the house.  Shown here are the plantings immediately adjacent to the dry stream bed.
