Sharum's Shamrock™ Holly is a cross between an unnamed Ilex species and Ilex Oakleaf™ 'Conaf'. (Oakleaf™ is one of five different hollies introduced as the "red hollies" in the mid-1990s.). Sharum's Shamrock™ was discovered as part of a Mississippi holly breeding program. A patent (28905) has been filed and is pending with the United States Patent Office. Propagation of this plant is prohibited.
This Holly has a broad pyramidal shape with coarse, deep green foliage. At maturity, it will reach a height of 8 feet tall and a width of 6 feet. The female plant produces red fruits in winter when a male pollinator is present. Excellent as a hedge. Grow in full sun or in very light shade. This holly will withstand sheering well and is resistant to insect and disease problems as well as deer browsing.
